Support the Orange County Historical Museum

There are many ways to support the Orange County Historical Museum.

Donate
The Historical Foundation of Hillsborough and Orange County is a not-for-profit organization. The generous contributions of visitors, neighbors, and friends allows us to continue to operate the Orange County Historical Museum, preserving artifacts, developing exhibits, educating students, and publishing materials on Orange County history.

Donations can be made by check to the “Historical Foundation of Hillsborough and Orange County” and brought in or mailed to the museum. Donations can be made by credit card online through Paypal on our Homepage.

The Historical Foundation of Hillsborough and Orange County is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization and contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Preserving the Collections- Adopt an Artifact Program
While the Museum does its best to stop the ravages of time on its collection of over 2,000 artifacts, some items become in need of professional care. The cost of conservation is substantial, but necessary to ensure that these objects are available for future generations. Our Adopt an Artifact program allows community members, foundations, and corporations to donate money that is used solely for conservation efforts. Learn more about the process here.

Did You Know?

Some common, everyday items that we throw away are valuable museum tools to protect artifacts? One of these is silica gel, commonly found in shoeboxes. Silica gel absorbs moisture and pollutants in miro-environments. Museums commonly use silica to control humidity and pollutant levels in storage boxes and exhibits. Silica can be reset infinitely, making it a cheap yet valuable resource for artifact care. So next time you get a new pair of shoes, save the silica and donate it to the museum's collections. The artifacts will thank you!

Volunteer
The energy of our volunteers is what keeps things moving at the museum. Volunteering at the Orange County Historical Museum is a great way to give back to your community and help the museum keep the memories of the past alive.

What are some of the benefits of volunteering?

  • Learn new skills and share your knowledge with others.
  • Work with others and make new friends.
  • Community involvement and recognition.
  • IT’S LOTS OF FUN!
The Museum is seeking enthusiastic people of all ages who appreciate Orange County history to volunteer their time at the museum. Contact us to find out how your interests and skills match up with our projects.

If you would like to volunteer, call (919-732-2201) or stop by Wednesdays through Fridays between 11am and 4pm OR send an email to info@orangeNChistory.org.
